ADMSP conducts a thorough field inspection of the Air Force Intelligence (AFI) prisons in Damascus

The Association of Detainees and the Missing in Sednaya Prison has conducted a field inspection of the AFI Directorate prisons in Damascus. Based on field visits, we confirm that these prisons have been emptied and all detainees have been released since December 8, 2024.

List of Air Force Intelligence Directorate prisons that have been inspected and verified:

1- Mezzeh Military Airport Prisons:

  •   Old Investigation Prison.
  •   New Investigation Prison.
  •   The Fourth Prison.
  •   The Stands Prison.
  •   Garage Prison.

4-   Air Force Intelligence Directorate Prison in the Qassa’ area.

Our field team visited the Southern
Region Branch of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate in Harasta, Damascus
countryside, and we confirm that it is
empty of detainees.

Regarding the information circulating
about the existence of secret prisons belonging to the Air Force Intelligence
Directorate, and based on the field inspection conducted by our team, we
believe that there is no evidence indicating the existence of secret prisons in
the following locations:

1-  We found no evidence to indicate the
existence of a secret underground prison extending from the Air Force
Intelligence Directorate building to below Liberation Square.

2-  We found no evidence to indicate the
existence of a secret underground prison extending from the Aviation Authority
building to Umayyad Square in Damascus.

3- We found no evidence to
indicate the existence of a secret underground tunnel extending from the
Harasta branch to the Damascus-Homs international road.

ADMSP calls on media professionals
and journalists to follow ethics of accuracy in reporting information about
secret prisons, in order to preserve the safety of families and respect their
feelings at these hard times. The association also calls on Syrian and
international human rights organizations to immediately help conduct thorough
inspections of prisons belonging to all of the prisons of the regime’s
intelligence branches.

We would like to point out that during
the past year, we collected and documented information from defectors and
former employees of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate about the secret
prisons at Mezzeh Military Airport, which were mentioned here. We will publish
them in a detailed report at the beginning of next year.

Freedom for every detainee and
justice for the victims and their families.
